Position-Based Cryptography and Multiparty Communication Complexity

چکیده
Position based cryptography (PBC), proposed in the seminal work of Chandran, Goyal, Moriarty, and Ostrovsky (SIAM J. Computing, 2014), aims at constructing cryptographic schemes in which the identity of the user is his geographic position. Chandran et al. construct PBC schemes for secure positioning and position-based key agreement in the bounded-storage model (Maurer, J. Cryptology, 1992). Apart from bounded memory, their security proofs need a strong additional restriction on the power of the adversary: he cannot compute joint functions of his inputs. Removing this assumption is left as an open problem. We first show that an answer to this question would resolve a long standing open problem in multiparty communication complexity: finding a function that is hard to compute with low communication complexity in the simultaneous message model, but easy to compute in the fully adaptive model. On a more positive side: we also show some implications in the other direction, i.e.: we prove that lower bounds on the communication complexity of certain multiparty problems imply existence of PBC primitives. Using this result we then show two attractive ways to “bypass” our hardness result: the first uses the random oracle model, the second weakens the locality requirement in the bounded-storage model to online computability. The random oracle construction is arguably one of the simplest proposed so far in this area. Our results indicate that constructing improved provably secure protocols for PBC requires a better understanding of multiparty communication complexity. This is yet another intriguing example where negative results in one area (in our case: lower bounds in multiparty communication complexity) can be used to construct secure cryptographic schemes.

Robust Multiparty Computation with Linear Communication Complexity
We present a robust multiparty computation protocol. The protocol is for the cryptographic model with open channels and a polytime adversary, and allows n parties to actively securely evaluate any poly-sized circuit with resilience t < n/2. The total communication complexity in bits over the point-to-point channels is O(Snκ + nBC), where S is the size of the circuit being securely evaluated, κ ...
متن کاملA novel key management scheme for heterogeneous sensor networks based on the position of nodes
Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have many applications in the areas of commercial, military and environmental requirements. Regarding the deployment of low cost sensor nodes with restricted energy resources, these networks face a lot of security challenges. A basic approach for preparing a secure wireless communication in WSNs, is to propose an efficient cryptographic key management protocol be...

In this paper, a new broadcast encryption scheme is presented based on threshold secret sharing and secure multiparty computation. This scheme is maintained to be dynamic in that a broadcaster can broadcast a message to any of the dynamic groups of users in the system and it is also fair in the sense that no cheater is able to gain an unfair advantage over other users. Another important feature...
متن کاملInformation Theoretically Secure Multi Party Set Intersection Re-visited
We re-visit the problem of secure multiparty set intersection in information theoretic settings. In [16], Li et.al have proposed a protocol for multiparty set intersection problem with n parties, that provides information theoretic security, when t < n 3 parties are corrupted by an active adversary having unbounded computing power. In [16], the authors claimed that their protocol takes six roun...

In this work, we design two-party and multiparty protocols for evaluating multivariate polynomials at participants’ inputs with security against a malicious adversary who may corrupt all but one of the parties. Our protocols are round and communication efficient, and use the underlying cryptographic primitives in a black-box way. Our construction achieves optimal communication complexity for de...
